How To Activate Your Subconscious Mind And Unlock Its Potential

Hi, you seem to be new here, I suggest by checking our guide to new readers New to Looking to Business or Join Our Free Email Course. Thanks for visiting!

Hello and thanks for visiting.

In all of us there is more potential than anyone every can use.
It is said that humans only use about 5% of their brain capacity.

What if we could tap into more of this, start using 6%, 7% or even 10-15%. If we could we would be way ahead of our peers.

We are yet to discover how to use and utilize this enormous amount of potential we have but there are ways to tap into it once in a while.
Sigmund Freud, the father of modern psychology, figured out that we have a subconscious part of our minds. If we can tap into the subconscious mind and use its powers to help us in our success we will dramatically increase our chances.

How do you use it?Sleeping Boy
Over the years many have hypothesized about how to use this immense power and most are in agreement that it is working all the time. It doesn’t stop to sleep or rest, it works 24 hours a day.

So if you can program your subconscious mind to work on the things you want it to you will be using a lot of your potential on the exact things you want to improve.

Activating the subconscious
The best time to do this is when you are going to sleep. When you are sleeping your conscious mind doesn’t get in the way and you don’t have the rush of new images that comes with being awake.

Before you go to bed, write down the most important thing you wish to improve. It can be a goal, a skill, a habit, anything. Visualize it, think about it, look at it and see yourself as the master of that skill or having accomplished that goal.

Let this process take at least 5 minutes and focus on it intently.
Then put it out of your mind and go to sleep.

All night your subconscious mind will be working on this skill, finding ways to improve or practicing the skill or habit while you sleep.

The next morning you will already have improved in the skill or have a rush of new ideas to help you accomplish your goal and new motivation to go after it.

This simple technique activates your subconscious mind in a way so profound that it can make a astonishing difference to your future.

  2. David says:

We do not only use 5% of our brain power. That is a myth. There is no source of untapped brilliance lurking in our heads.

    • anonymous says:

we only use 99.99% of our brains we have to have the faith of a mustard seed to accomplish that part of our brain cause that part of our brain is the size of a mustard seed its by the grace of God that we dont have this cause it my be a disaster so depend on God and ask Him weather or not believe in Him you have 2 have the faith it says if you have the faith as a mustard seed you can move mountains so Christian or not believe in Him i want 2 have the power to pass thru walls and solid oblects but do i get that for just believeing, no i have 2 deserve it and earn it by believing in God and God only so keep on believing

      • Anon78 says:

        0/10.
If I had actually understood what you’re trying to say, i’ll probably ha- oh wait nevermind.
Just explain me what the “hell” does this means :

“so Christian or not believe in Him i want 2 have the power to pass thru walls and solid oblects but do i get that for just believeing, no i have 2 deserve it and earn it by believing in God and God only so keep on believing”

  3. Daniel M. Wood says:

    Hello David,

    Thanks for leaving you comment.
This is a very complicated science and truly we don’t know what we are capable of and how much of our capacity we use.
We have been able to see by the use of EKGs that we only use between 5 and 10% of our brains capacity, the question though what would happen if we used more?

The truth is though that people have proven to be able to do extraordinary things when faced with situations. Just look at mothers lifting cars to save their child.
It shows that we are today using only a small part of our physical potential.

The same goes for the mind, we don’t know our potential but we do know that the subconscious works 24 hours a day at night we know it as dreams.

If you can get the subconscious working on the right things, you will be working on your problems 24 hours per day instead of only 8.

Even if we don’t have hidden brilliance we have hidden time and that is enough.

    • anonymous says:

dont listen to does stupid computers you have to use Gods decision and no EKG’s that dosent work it is proven to be wrong they think that they are wright but it always turns out wrong so plz if you believe in those dont it by God and his decision if its wright or wrong so pray if you think you believe in God as much as a mustard seed you dont good only knows when mothers lift cars it anxziety its God’s way of saying i may give you a dose of the power that you have but not fully unlocked yet

  5. The Dear Old Doctor says:

The myth that we only use up to ten percent of our brains is
nothing more than that, a myth. There is no untapped power or
source of intelligence that we can somehow unlock and make
ourselves geniuses or solve any problems while we sleep.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hello Dr.

I am glad I raised this debate.
A few people have disagreed to the use of only 10 percent of the brain.
It is scientifically proven however that we only use 10 percent.
Doctors have scanned our brains and seen that we only use a small part of it.

It is true however that we cannot all of a sudden tap in and start using 100% but we can use the fact that we have that vast supply of brain power by utilizing techniques like the one in my article.

  6. Nathan says:

Hmm, I agree with you. Although I am kind of disagreeing with only 5% of our minds, from what I’ve seen, it’s 10% but they’re mere technicalities.

To my point, although I do not understand how the subconscious works fully, I understand what it is and what it can do. I am in perfect agreement with you saying we only use 10% of our brain capacity. I think people are getting confused with using 10% of their brain or using 10% of their mind – brain capacity. I personally think we only use 10% of our minds and that we don’t need 100% of our brains.
It has been proven that people can live with one brain hemisphere or even less which pretty much disproves the 100% brain theory.
I like how you touched upon the woman lifting the car to save her child, we only tap into our subconcious or a higher amount of our brain capacity when we our own emotions take over.. or that is what I think anyway. Basic evidence says that the woman was fearful for her child so she could access more of her true potential, another example would be making split decisions such as jumping out of the way of a car, we access that higher amount. Although it is already implanted into us that we would automatically move out of the cars way, when it happens, our minds freeze and that’s when a higher amount of brain potential kicks in.

I personally think it’s a great subject area and I love talking about it

  7. Teena says:

I want to say I read somewhere that we use all of the brain, it’s just that we use different percents of it at different times.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

That is both true and falls Teena.
We do use all the parts of the brain, but not its full potential and all of it.
Small difference, but an important one.

  8. Absta says:

What emotion causes deja vu/deja vecu. It would be pretty awesome to use it more often.
I also want to add, eating before you sleep increases brain activity which can raise your chances of having dreams (that you remember?)

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hi Absta,

Thank you for stopping by and leaving your comment.
I actually don’t know what emotion causes deja vu/deja vecu. I have never thought to look into it. Deja vu is caused because of signals in the brain meeting a glitch. What you see gets registered but the mind doesn’t read it until after a second which makes it feel as though we have seen it before.

I’ll see if I can find out if it could be tied to an emotion.

  9. Brains says:

About the lady lifting a car. I believe it has nothing to do with brain usage, but more so an adrenaline rush which causes a surge of power that you don’t just get day to day.

  10. liah says:

There is no evidence of using only ten percent of our brain, so as far as i’m concern we use 100% percent, until i’m proven wrong.

    • Nathan says:

      Ad Ignorantiam

What you have just said is a logical fallacy. Just because something hasn’t been proven yet does not mean that the other option is correct. It is plausible but it shouldn’t just be the other option and it also means that you’re still incorrect until proven.

      • Daniel M. Wood says:

Well Nathan that sounds harsh, but yes lack of proof just means there is lack of proof. It doesn’t prove anything.

In this case there is proof that shows that we only use 10% of our capacity.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hi Liah,

There is in fact proof that we just use 10% of our brains.
We can measure how much of our mind we use with all the technology we have today.

  11. Yoseph says:

Have you come across the idea that we map our brains with sensory data- like a bio database of electric chemical information- having the brain exposed in surgery, you poke a part of the brain and the part that is mapped for moving the big toe will cause the big toe to move… the sub conscious is in control of this work- what the sub-conscious is, to my knowledge is no more than your very same “conscious” or “attentive localization of our being” operating at a minute level. The seemingly complex is made up of very simple components, the mind, memories, consciousness, sub/super consciousness are all made of simple elements that when in context to application and processing- we give it another name.

If I attempt to simplify all these things, I begin with consciousness as being awareness. Awareness of impressions, impressions are the external vibratory effectors that our five/six receptors take in. These impressions I label as “thoughts”. Multiple thoughts compound into ideas- with ideas, or conceptions we form decisions. Sometimes we do not take in enough thoughts or impressions and we hastily form decisions. Decisions are maintained in the memory which I realize as being no more than electric data mapped on the brain by the consciousness. The subconscious is our consciousness operating at the molecular level, it handles most of the seemingly automatic processes of the body. This level of consciousness is incredible when I think of how much it actually does- it is our awareness focused inward, does all the organizing and processing- our awareness focused outward is slower and more “macro” it is dependent on taking in impressions. We tend to err in forcing it to “think” and calculate- its sole duty is to soak in impressions. The “inward consciousness” is much faster at calculating. If we learn to allow the two forms of consciousness to operate in this way, we would in theory be more efficient and have greater access to the stored memories.

One scenerio- while requiring to access a certain memory, say a tidbit of reading needed to be memorized for class. The professor points at you suddenly and requests you to regurgitate a simple fact from the reading- you draw a blank, you feel yourself intent on the impressions you are receiving, the other students staring at your stupid face, the lording professor growing impatient…
Because the Macro conscious was probably more intent on taking in the impressions, and being that we tend to not be very adept at shifting from Macro to Micro you can imagine why such a big delay can occur. After class when you relax, out of nowhere it seems the answer comes. I see it as if we had been holding ourselves from ourselves.. kinda silly.

Most of this is my own pure speculation- but I feel its on a decent path.

  12. Yoseph says:

By the way, we map our brains as we go through life. At the start of life our brain is nearly at 1% as we go through life and are forced to learn to survive- the things we learn is mapped onto the brain. There are cases that some people map math calculating where normally is located the movement and reaction control spot. In this case, the individual could multiply two, two digit numbers faster than a calculator.

Being that at any given moment you are only likely to do one activity- only the part that is mapped for that activity is active- if an area happens to be 10% or your brain mass (hopefully not eating motor skills lol) than I guess I could see a person using up to that much. We do not truly multi-task, so I can’t see two areas of the brain actually being active at once- but who knows… might happen. There are cases where two areas of the brain are fused so that when a person thinks or hears a number, it correlates with a something that is mapped on the other piece of the brain- that could be color, shape recognition, or smell. In these cases, these persons were extremely adept at math- they said that the number were tangible objects. Very amazing stuff.

All in all, I don’t really think the level of brain activity has anything to do with the sub-conscious and activating it or its supposed potential. It is already doing immense things, I think the issue is that the conscious itself is misused so that it is doing activities that should actually be given to the sub/micro conscious.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

Thanks for your incredible comment Yoseph.
You make an amazing point from a scientific stand point about how the mind functions and what happens between the different part.

You are right about the subconscious doing amazing things and that it is the conscious mind that is misused.

Like I wrote in the article the power of the subconscious is immense and in many ways infinite which is why I would like us to access more of that knowledge with the conscious part of the mind.

I completely agree when you say that we should become better at delegating activities to the subconscious and better at getting information from it to the conscious.

Thank you for your great comment and for the thought provoking ideas.

      //Daniel

  13. Yoseph says:

    You’re welcome Daniel,

There’s more to all this, but unless a person is willing to think this over rather than look to a “credited” person with degrees; it will be a very long time before my ideas are accepted or understood.

Today I began thinking on the idea that all sources of information that we receive with our senses are vibratory in nature, Frequencies, Sound Waves, Seismic, Light Waves, if our attention is narrowly directed then most likely we process only a small fraction of the greater reality- or provide very little for the sub-conscious to work on to form better decisions.

Last thing I’ll provide as personal proof- I play the piano; an improvisational style that must flow- if my “mind” is trying too hard to control the thinking and creative process then I will stumble all over the place, but when I just allow my conscious to only take in impressions its like my sub-conscious is freed and the notes jump out. I found this to also be similar when I draw pictures or speak in front of an audience. You can probably think of similar occurrences in your own experiences… I think this is sort of a direction toward “unlocking” your sub-conscious.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hey Yoseph,

You have given me a lot to think about and I thank you for it.
The points you make are interesting and merit more study, I do think you are right though that a change in the world will need to come from a “credited” resource, but that doesn’t mean it cannot be you.

I’ll look into this further myself and we will see what we come up with.

  14. Yoseph says:

I’m in the long process of forming my ideas regarding what I have stated before and many other correlating thoughts in my facebook notes, feel free to read what I have so far: http://www.facebook.com/note.php?created&&note_id=10150158605862879

  15. Daniel M. Wood says:

    Thanks Yoseph,

    I’ll have a look :)

  16. john wilkinson says:

hi there, i tried this technique and i have done for the past week but nothing seems to be happening do you know why this maybe, because i do everything it says.

    thanks kind regards

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hi John,

      Thanks for letting me know.
There can be many different reasons for your troubles.

First, how clearly do you see your goal?
      Can you almost feel it?

The more powerful the vision is the stronger affect it will have.

Depending on what you are trying to improve, a skill or a dream it will take different amounts of time.
If you are doing exactly what it says you are activating the subconscious, but that doesn’t mean you will get an idea at once. It takes time to work on your technique and to come up with great ideas.

Your subconscious is like a powerful computer that works 24 hours/day, but some calculations still take weeks or months to finish.

Stick with it but please answer my questions so that maybe I can give you some more help or advice.

If you want you can email me at daniel.wood@lookingtobusiness.com.

  17. Sargis Vardumyan says:

Hi! I have been using your technique and I got amazing results. I’m currently working on my main goal of activating my photographic memory. Are there any other techniques except the law of attraction.

    Thank you!

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hey Sargis,

I am glad it is working.
Photografic memory is hard. I don’t think the law of attraction will help you there.
The technique we share isn’t really formed for it either.

I haven’t tried this technique but I learned one a couple years back that could work.

“You sit in a small dark room with a book in your lap.
Then flash on the light on and off.

You will see a part of the text as light.
As you practice this you will be able to see more and more, clearer and clearer.

Don’t practice for too long every day since it can be harmful and make you tired.”

Like I said I haven’t tried it out but you could if you want.
I would love to hear how it goes.

  18. Hello. Nice article! Glad to see that you actually respond to people, I don’t see that often.

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hi Robert.
      Thank you for acknowledging it.
Now I am very late, but I have been on my honeymoon.
But I always try to get back to people ASAP.

      • parassingh pardeshi says:

        Hello Sir,
I wanted to ask you that is the myth “dreams come true” are real or just a myth.I’ve gone through such incidents when it suddenly clicks me that I’ve been through that incident or have seen it or felt it before in my dreams. Why does this happen? It even once happened to my mother. My mother had actually anticipated my dad’s accident before it happened but couldn’t stop it.!!
        Please help..

        • Daniel M. Wood says:

          Hi Sir,

          Well there are many theories.
One theori is that we dream every single night, sometimes we remember our dreams and sometimes things happen in real life that match those dreams. It isn’t seeing the future, it is just a matter of enough dreams = at least 1 correct over the course of a lifetime.

But that is one theories, my wife is sure she has had a truth dream and so they say has her grandmother.

It is hard to know the truth without study and since truth dreams come so rarely it is almost impossible to monitor the person in question as they dream a truth dream.

  19. the school guy says:

hey n hello daniel can you tell any other ways by which we can utilise our brain i tried out the above thing which you have mentioned in your article , it was a success i could finish a tough assignment on my own can u help me on this .

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Congratulations.
I am glad I could help.
If you sign up for our email course the exercises it will teach you really help and together build a good system for you.

You can also read through our popular articles (found at the top of the page on the navigation bar) I am sure you can find some more gems there :)

  20. Samasi says:

I use 100% of my brain capacity and power. The way to do this is through belief. The infinite field is in constant flux. It is changed the moment you percieve something with a certain belief. Belief is the KEY!

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hey Samasi,

Belief is the fueling power. What you believe to be true can and will come true, if you work diligently towards it.
Though when we speak about how much of our minds capacity we use we are speaking of the potential in us. We all have so much untapped potential and the ability to always improve. You will never be finished learning and you will always be able to become better.

  21. jyoti says:

we can take out our subconcious mind from brain. Then, we cannot feel emoition & feelings.

    • absta101 says:

“It is said that humans only use about 5% of their brain capacity.”
I’m sorry, this statement has been proven wrong by the ‘Myth busters’. In one of their recent episode they proved, by using MRI scans and what not, that you use way more than 10% of your brain even when you are sleeping.

I think it’s clear to us now that we use our brains full potential. Although, I am not saying that this articles methods don’t work. The subconcious is subconcious for a reason. think about it, what if people could fully control their own body, there would be a lot more suicide cases.

      • Daniel M. Wood says:

        Hey,

You are both wrong and write in what you say. True, it is proved that we use our whole brain, but what of the whole brains potential?

        That is not proved.

Our ability to continuously improve ourselves and become better, stronger, smarter makes it impossible to say what the limit of human potential is.

When we speak of the 5-10% rule it is more a belief of how large a part of our potential we are using.

Why do you believe that there would be more suicides if we could control our own body?
It might be easier to kill yourself by shutting off your own heart, but on the other hand, it is easy to kill yourself if you want to anyway, the thing that keeps us alive is the fact that we want to and have the courage to stay alive.

        • absta101 says:

I’m sure you’ve heard of the term euthanasia. There are some people who don’t have the ability to kill themselves. Therefore all those people would be able to kill themselves by having full controll of their body. People would also die instantly because they couldn’t possibly be able to controll all their vital bodily functions conciousely.

We learn new skills quite frequently because that’s how we survive. This ‘untapped potential’ may be only an illusion.

Saying our brain has untapped potential is like saying our immune system has untapped potential. There are plenty of diseases our immune system can become ‘immune’ to when they ‘learn’ how to deal with the infection.

          • Daniel M. Wood says:

            Good points all.
But I do agree, saying our mind has untapped potential is like saying our immune system has untapped potential.

There is a lot we can do to strengthen our immune system, there is a lot we can do to increase its immunity and there is a lot we can do medically to help our immune system.

Same goes for our muscles, we do not know what the limit in strength is, just look at the incredible feats of Shaolin Munks.

And I think the same is for the mind, if a Shaolin Munk can strengthen his body to do the incredible things they do, what can we strengthen the mind to learn?

  22. absta101 says:

Yeah I guess you’re right then, turns out my example proved your point more than mine xD

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

hehe, the important thing is that we make a point.
I do agree with your basic point that we do use our whole mind, but we do have an unlimited potential :)

  23. steven says:

may I ask if you can unlock more potential of your brain during the day, and/or locate the triggers of this intellectual boost. so that we can turn it on or off persee whenever we want. do you know what the basic catalysts are that cause this boost in current potential? i believe i use 15% because i have always for some reason or another been able to answer questions that i have never had any way to know the answer itself . It would always feel like moments of deja vu, like for instance in freshman year we were studying world history particularly infamous rulers/leaders in history. atila the hun came up (which i had never heard the name before in my life) and instantly my mind thought “nose bleed”……..and 20 minutes later my teacher told us that he had died in his wedding celebration, that he blead to death through his nose because his blood would not clott from the alcohol in his system. c

can you help explain that to me? also i would eagerly like to know if you know about the catalysts that i mentioned earlier, etc.

    thank you :) steven

    • absta101 says:

Maybe you knew this information subconciousely?

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hey Steven,

That is an interesting point and I don’t want to just answer it off hand.
There could be many reasons for your revelations, you might have picked it up somewhere and just have an extraordinary ability to access knowledge that you at the time weren’t conscious of.

If could also be that you tap into the “collective subconscious” that Jung spoke about.

Without knowing more I am sorry to say that I cannot give you a complete answer, but I would love to discuss and study it more.

If you are interested please send me an email at daniel.wood(a)lookingtobusiness.com

    Hi Sir,
I read your article… it is attractive.
I want to seduce a girl.
How it is helpful for me?
tell also how to use this . . .?

    • Daniel M. Wood says:

      Hi Deep,

You can use the technique just as described.
Picture you as a couple, think about plans for how you can seduce her, set that goal and start seeing what you need to do in order to make her interested.

  25. jon says:

    can this work physicly too

  26. Jason M says:

Hey daniel (sorry for interrupting jon)

Daniel. You are a very intelligent person and i can see that you must of been investigating this topic for a long time. One thing that doesn’t add up for me is that no one knows how to ‘really’ unlock our true potential. I apologise for saying that but its true. You have found a way that requires a lot of work and can end with very good results but we don’t have an instant or permanent solution. If you have seen the film ‘limitless’ you will get an idea of what i think we should be able to achieve. Why is it so hard to unlock your true potential?

I don’t mean any of this in a bad way. I really want people to look into this more. This will be the greatest discovery for humans if we could find an instant theory.

    Thank you Jason.

  27. Prashant says:

I had tried it earlier Mr. Wood but with no success. Now could you please explain what was wrong & what more needs to be done.

  28. terrance says:

i have unlock some of my brain and i can do thing other people cant like push my body past its limit with out pain
