5 Things You Can do Today to Start Increasing Your Income

These 5, easy to do, activities will without a doubt improve your efficiency help you create more value at work and earn you the reward of an increased income.
What is best, you can implement them all today.

1. Get to work 30 minutes earlier.
We all know that the most successful people get to work first in the morning. This is because it gives them a chance to get started and find a good rhythm before the rest of the office comes in.

By being the first into the office you will have the time to settle in and start working before your colleagues come in and start talking and getting coffee and so on, and once you have that tempo it is easy to keep for the rest of the day.

2. Plan and prioritize your day.
When you get into the office take 10 minutes to list all the activities you have to do that day and than prioritize the list.
The 80/20 rule states that you will create 80% of the value from just 20% of the tasks.
Focus on the tasks that are most important to you, your employer and your future.

Other tasks can be delegated as they are not the most valuable use of your time.

3. When at work, work!
One of the most common misconceptions in the workplace today is that people believe that they are doing work just because they are at work.
This is not true!

You are only creating value for yourself the time you actually are working and doing tasks that are of importance.

Vow to yourself to work while you are at work and keep social activities to after office hours. Because while your colleagues are standing around the coffee machine talking, you will be creating real value for your company and be in the best position to reap the benefits.

4. Ask your boss for more responsibility
Once you have settled in and feel that you can do the tasks that already expected of you, ask for more responsibility.
Talk to your boss and ask if there isn’t more you can do for the company and that you want to make a larger contribution.

Don’t ask for anything in return, just ask if there is anything more you can do.

It won’t be enough to ask once, keep reminding your boss that if something comes up you would love to help (don’t nag but keep reminding).

Once the chance comes your way, act immediately!
Get it done quickly and get it back to her ASAP.

Show that you can handle the extra responsibility and that she can trust that you will get the job done in good time and at a high level of quality.

5. Stay 30 minutes later.
Just like with tip number 1. The best people stay late.
They come in earlier, they stay later and they work harder and smarter during the day.
Make it a habit to work get more done the time you are at work and to give yourself this extra hour of work time to get things done.

Especially if you are given the responsibility your are asking for, this extra time will let you get the job done quickly and well.

To sum it up
By doing these 5 simple things you can put your career on the fast track. You will start moving forward in a rate you didn’t believe was possible and you quickly increase your income.

None of these things are hard to do and don’t take much effort and yet the potential benefit for you is enormous.

I would love to hear what you thought about this article, what did I get right? What did I miss? Have you felt any difference yourself by doing or not doing anything (or everything) on this list?

  1. Love it Daniel, especially the idea of doing taking these actions without looking for something in return. Fact is, by simply putting in the time, setting the example, and looking for more responsibility, there is no way that person won’t succeed and reach greater heights.

    Love it man.

Thanks Marcus, I am glad you stopped by and thank you for leaving your comment.

In most things we do the karma rule is a really useful mindset.

Whatever you put out into the universe comes back to you three fold.
So by putting in extra time and effort, creating extra value for your company will always come back 3 fold to you, even if it is from an unlikely source.
