How much sales training do I need?

Hello and thanks for visiting.

As a respons to my question about what you might like to read I just yesterday received an email containing the question.

“Im new to sales and would like to know how much sales training I need?”

This is a question that cannot be addressed enough.
I have written about this before in my earlier articles “The importance of sales training” and “Practice Practice Practice

I run all my salesmen through a training program based on a few believes.

1. To stay motivated you must always keep improving.
2. The best training is done in the field.
3. Continuous training is a must.

With this in mind I have created the following training program.

1. 2 day introduction course on our products and basic sales technique.

2. 2 weeks of high tempo calling customers with ongoing feedback and a supervisor at their side at all times.
During these 2 weeks we give feedback in between calls and coach whenever it is needed.

3. If the salesman has completed the first 2 weeks of training and shows potential they go into our regular sales program.

4. 15-30 minutes of sales training every day.
Can be anything from small tips and advice too motivation.

5. A 1-2 hour workshop every week.

6. We also recommend our salesmen to read, watch movies and try to learn as much as possible about sales.

I hope this helps and would love to get feedback on this trainign program and if you have any other ideas about what might be added or subtracted from this training program.
